I have completed my Easter Banner and now need a storage bag. I don’t want all those pendents getting lost. Let’s make one together.
- Sewing Machine
- Fabric and thread
- String or rope or ribbon (grosgrain works very well) 1/4 inch size works nicely.
- Measuring Tape or Ruler
- Rotary Cutter or Scissors
- Cutting Mat
Time to measure
Put your pendents in a stack on the table.
Using a ruler or measuring tape. Write down the Width and Height of your pendents. This will be your starting place.
The Easter Pendents storage bag I made from the left over fabric ended up being 12″ x 14″.
Cutting your fabric
You will need two layers of cotton for the Easter Pendent storage bag.
With your measurements in hand. Place your fabric on your cutting mat aligning it with the bottom edge of your mat.
I like to place my fabric 1 inch up from the bottom edge of the mat so I can see the measurements on the bottom of my mat.
Using my rotary cutter and cutting guide I cut out the pieces needed.
Now you will need 2 additional pieces of fabric for the place where the draw strings are held.
Cut 2 pieces of fabric 2-1/2″ x 11-1/2″.
Assembly of the bag body
Place the body two(2) pieces of your fabric right sides together.
Sewing three (3) sides total.
Two (2) long sides and one (1) short side. It will look like a U when you are done.
Finish the edges of your seams with a zig zag or serger.
Turn right side out and press.
Top pieces for draw string
Taking one of 2 1/2″ x 12″ top pieces fold them over in half lengthwise, right sides together.
Sew each end closed with 1/4″ seam.
Turn both pieces right side out and press.
Joining the body and top of the bag together
Turn the body of the storage bag wrong side out and lay flat on your table or cutting mat.
Mark the center of each side of the body and top.
Take the one of the 2 top pieces and using the center marks place it on one side of the body and pin or clip in place.
Do the same for the other side.
You should end up with a 1/2 inch opening at each end of the top of the bag.
Now sew the bag and top pieces together using a 1/2 inch seam.
If you start halfway into the bag it makes it easier to end the stitching.
Finish the top and body with a serger or zig zag stitch.
Press. I make a 1/4 inch top stitch to hold the fabric down and look pretty.
Attaching the draw string
Cut two (2) pieces of 30 inch long string or ribbon.
Starting on one side of the bag insert the string inside the casing that you just made on the top of the bag. The strings will be in a U shape with open ends on opposite openings.
Pull the draw string or ribbon through the top of the bag by using a safety pin or other type of puller.
Here is what the strings look like when pulled through the casing.
Time to put your Easter Banner Pendents into the storage bag.
Look what we have made together. I decided that my bag needed a label so I came up with this one. I think it is rather cute don’t you.
